Education
2026
This program is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are seriously considering engineering as a future career. The SPARK Group is honored to introduce future Spartan engineers to Mechanical Engineering. During the ME session, we also provide hands-on activities through “Utilizing Optical Emission Spectroscopy to Diagnose Gases,” allowing students to explore why and how light can interact with gases. We also showcase our latest research through a presentation entitled “Innovations Beyond Optical Emissions.”
This course focuses on theoretic topics including equilibrium statistical mechanics, kinetic theory, collisions and transport, chemical thermodynamics and kinetics, and laser spectroscopy.

In this webinar, you will learn about carbon capture and utilization: a basic explanation and overview, potential to deliver economic and sustainability benefits, what work is currently being done in the field, the opportunities it presents, and drawbacks, limitations, and barriers. Check out the flyer.
The course will teach students to apply the First and Second Laws of thermodynamics to systems and introduce applications of thermodynamics in an engineering setting.
